Nimbility
If a year in pandemic has taught me anything, it’s that I can never know exactly what is coming next. As a Tarot reader, I take pride in my ability to observe messages and deduce conclusions about the present and future, so in early 2020 when I was getting cards that said, “Slow down! Take a break! Be home!” I was confused af. What do you mean slow down?! My schedule was packed! Oh Pre-Pandemic Rebby, you are so sweet and dumb.
So here’s the deal, my mother has a lesson for everything. And one thing she has instilled in me is the ability to be nimble. If you want to follow your dreams (and have a good time doing it!) you have to make adjustments as you go. Now, this doesn’t always come naturally for me because I’m a type-A goal setter and a planner. But over the years, I’ve realized that if I keep the path open and try not to guess HOW I achieve my goals, they somehow end up finding me.
This brings me to one of my favorite Tarot card combinations. The Fool and Temperance.
The Fool card is the very beginning of the deck and represents impulse in its purest form. It’s the feeling of going after potential with a spontaneity that often borders on naivety. You know how kids come up with the wildest things in their imagination? It’s because they don’t have anything but pure whim and impulse guiding their decision making. It’s where genius begins and innovations are made.
Temperance, on the other hand, is a card of purpose, patience, and moderation. This isn’t a card of stagnant patience though, (it’s represented by Sagittarius after all!) similarly to the tension that happens when you stand on one foot, there is a ton of activity that goes into being surefooted. The strength of the balance comes from the act of balancing in and of itself.
So, as you navigate the ever changing climate of reopenings, new opportunities, and getting back to “normal”, I invite you to leap with the openness and impromptu attitude of The Fool but to land with the purpose and grace of Temperance. As we leave disease, choose to move with ease and practice nimbility.
